In early March 2020, the global demand on Personal Protective Equipment relevant to limiting exposure and transmission of the SARS-CoV 2 virus meant that acute shortages were foreseeable. An effort to obtain adequate provision for frontline healthcare workers was spearheaded by Clinical Professors at the University of Cambridge.

MATCH Consortium was formed to introduce a multidisciplinary approach involving clinicians, academics and industrial partners from across the UK to find ways of tackling the problem. Our main focus has been on the need for Effective Respiratory Protective Equipment, RPE.

A key strategy has been to follow multiple parallel routes to achieve our target and great successes have been achieved to date in supporting conventional PRE manufacturing as well as working on new and novel solutions.
